Ágnes Tamás, associate professor, is a lecturer at the Department of Contemporary History, University of Szeged. Her main research topics include 19–20th century visual sources, research of caricatures and comic papers, analysis of stereotypes and the depiction of enemies with an emphasis on comparative and interdisciplinary approaches, and also press history.

She earned an MA in History and German at the University of Szeged in 2008, defended her PhD dissertation at the University of Szeged in 2012 and habilitated in 2021 at the University of Pécs.

In her PhD dissertation she compared the national stereotypes of comic papers of the 1860’s and 1890’s, during a postdoctoral fellowship she analysed the depiction of the enemy in caricatures (1914–1947). Her next research topic is press control in the years after the Compromise based on archival research (NKFI project). Since 2013, she took and takes part in different research projects (MTA-ELTE Válságtörténeti kutatócsoport, Edition of the Correspondence of József Eötvös, and SZTE BTK Identitás- és Kultúrakutató Központ). She regularly presents her papers at various Hungarian and international conferences, publishes in Hungarian and in foreign languages.

She started teaching courses about the history of the Dual Monarchy and methodology at the University of Szeged, at the Department of Modern and Contemporary Hungarian History (Department of Modern Hungarian History). She teaches historiography and the history of Hungary in the Horthy era at the Department of Contemporary History. Since 2019, she has been the secretary of the Doctoral Program in Contemporary and Comparative History.
